Living on Standby Orders
The Last Days Are Here
Living on Standby Orders
By Robert Rousseau
Scripture: Matthew 24:44; Titus 2:13 (NKJV)
The Commander’s signal is coming, and we’re in the last days (Hebrews 1:2, NKJV). Paul warned, “Perilous times will come” (2 Timothy 3:1, NKJV). False teaching spreads like wildfire, hearts harden, and unrest shakes the world. The signs are clear, but this isn’t about guessing dates. It’s about being ready.
As a Marine, I learned standby orders mean business: gear packed, mind sharp, no hesitation. Even in training, when danger closed in, I had to be ready—no second chances. Later, a health scare left me bedridden, doctors unsure. I cried out, and God answered: “O Lord my God, I cried out to You, and You healed me” (Psalm 30:2, NKJV). Those moments taught me life’s fragile. True readiness is rooted in Christ alone.
Jesus said, “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matthew 24:44, NKJV). His parousia—His sudden return—demands we live as citizens of heaven (Philippians 3:20). Here’s how:
• Cling to Christ. Stay in union with Him through repentance, trust, and prayer. Salvation is by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9, NKJV).
• Live holy and urgent. The Blessed Hope fuels purity (Titus 2:13, 1 John 3:3).
• Share the gospel. Tell someone about Jesus this week—no rehearsal at the trumpet.
• Keep disciplines. Worship, Scripture, prayer, rest—these keep faith steady, not trendy.
If you’ve never trusted Christ, surrender now: “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9, NKJV). He’s waiting (John 6:37). For believers, don’t chase headlines—chase Him. Keep your gear ready. Love boldly. Stand for truth gently.
Mission: Share the gospel with one person this week. Pray, “Come quickly, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20).
Reflection Questions:
1. If Christ returned tonight, what needs to be ‘squared away’ in my life for Him?
2. Who will I share the gospel with this week, and how will I prepare?
Memory Verse: “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matthew 24:44, NKJV).
Looking to Jesus, the Blessed Hope,
