Looking for Fruit
What God Truly Seeks in Our Spiritual Life
What God Truly Seeks in Our Spiritual Life
Chuck Smith once said,
“God is more interested in what we are than in what we do. He looks for fruit; we try to produce works.”
Isn’t that a powerful reminder? In our fast-paced, achievement-oriented world, it’s easy to think that spiritual success comes from how much we do for God—how active we are in ministry, how often we serve, or how many good deeds we check off the list.
But God’s focus is different.
Jesus said in John 15:8,
“By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.” (NKJV)
That fruit isn’t simply about activities or accomplishments. It’s about the character of Christ showing up in our lives—the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and self-control that come from the Spirit working inside us (Galatians 5:22-23).
Spiritual fruit comes from abiding—resting deeply in Christ day by day—not merely striving to do more. The works we offer God do matter, but they’re the natural product of what He’s already growing in our hearts.
So today, let’s ask ourselves:
What is God cultivating inside me? Am I growing in His Spirit’s fruit—or just growing busier?
True faithfulness isn’t about getting more done. It’s about letting God shape who we are, so our lives naturally overflow with His glory and grace.
May we rest fully in His transforming work and live out His fruit authentically, giving God all the glory.
With you in His grace,
Robert Rousseau
Your Step Today: Choose one fruit of the Spirit to focus on. Pray for God to grow it in your life and look for ways to express it throughout your day.

I thank the beautiful Holy Spirit for working in me to bring me closer to being like Christ. I am amazed at the promises God gives. So true about the work we do. It is how our heart is that matters to God . Our heart will bring the change when the Holy Spirit guides and we listen and obey with such a willing want and need.
