Rise and Reflect: Guarding the Gospel
(A Devotional on Galatians 1:8-9)
Good morning, friend! Let’s start this day with a strong cup of coffee and an even stronger dose of truth from God’s Word. In Galatians 1:8-9, Paul doesn’t mince words: “But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed” (NKJV).
Wow, Paul’s not playing around! Why the intensity? Because the gospel—Jesus’ death for our sins, His resurrection, and salvation by faith alone (1 Cor. 15:3-4; Eph. 2:8-9)—is the heartbeat of our faith. Mess with it, and you’re not just tweaking a detail; you’re cutting the lifeline. In Paul’s day, false teachers were slipping in, adding works to grace, and he said, “No way!” Today, we face the same danger: messages that sound good but dilute the truth—maybe it’s “earn your way to God” or “all paths lead to heaven.” Friend, there’s only one gospel, and it’s all about Jesus.
So, what does this mean for us today? First, stand firm. When you hear a teaching, test it against Scripture (Acts 17:11). If it doesn’t line up with the gospel of grace, let it go. Second, live the truth. Your life—how you love, forgive, and serve—shows the world the real Jesus. And third, share the good news. Someone in your life needs to hear that salvation is a free gift through Christ alone. Don’t be shy—tell them, “Jesus paid it all, and He invites you to trust Him!” (John 3:16).
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for the pure gospel that saved me. Guard my heart from false teachings, help me live Your truth boldly, and give me courage to share Your grace today. Amen.
Your Step Today: Jot down 1 Cor. 15:3-4 on a card and keep it close. Let it remind you to hold fast to the gospel and share it with someone this week.
