In the Revised Standard Version, these verses are rendered as follows:
"Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. "
The warning is clear: we need to be careful about how we apprehend the sins of others, because we ourselves are also sinful.
Thus Jesus challenges us in the very next verse: "Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?"
If we persist in calling out the sins of others, with no thought of our own sins, where is the mercy that we all hope to receive from God? If we deny others mercy and forgiveness, if we harden our heart thus against our fellow man, are we not like the unforgiving servant in Matthew 18:23-35?
We cannot bear true witness if we do not acknowledge that sin is sin. Yet we are not ministering to others if we are not encouraging everyone at every turn to choose to stop sinning. Our priority must be steering people away from tomorrow's sin, not seeking to punish for yesterday's sin.
Indeed… We are to judge within, God will judge those without.

11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?
13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
Grateful for this reminder that Jesus is the eternal, uncreated Savior and that His sacrifice is complete. True faith rests in Him alone, just as Scripture teaches.
There is also other "Jesus" movements, which proclaim Jesus Christ, but do NOT know Him.
When I was just a babe in Christ, about two months old back in 1978, I was invited to a Home Fellowship, called "His Rest Christian Fellowship" which met in the home of a woman "pastor, prophetess, some even considered her an "Apostle". She was originally from Holland, and a member of the Christian Reformed church in Holland.
Due to my ignorance of the Lord's Word and His ways, I felt immediately accepted among them, because I "felt" such love from the families which lived in her Rock house, as member's of her "fellowship". I within a few weeks moved into this house. There were about 3 families which lived there, and about 4 young men, who had no families.
I was there about 8 years, off and on. Mostly on.
However, I can now state that it was a very closely knitted cult, where Hyper faith, Gnostic teachings of Origen was taught, "Manifested Sons of God" "Kingdom Now theology", Positive Thinking & Confession, Oswald Chambers, with a mixture of Pentecostal, Charismatic, belief's and practices, casting out demons, just to name a few.
In 1986, our "Fellowship" was raided by Police, pictures of some of the member's were plastered all over Toronto Newspapers, Deen, the woman pastor arrested for various charges of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.
Due to this raid I was in shock, thinking that my whole salvation was a fake, and that all I believed was a fake, so I left the group, and went back into my old lifestyle, thinking I was a "JUDAS".
There is much more to this story, I shall write and share my experiences, on my Substack, however I will end with this, what I did not know back then, I have learned much since, ALL because the LORD is truly OUR keeper, and no matter what we get caught up into, the LORD does deliver us from all the trappings of the enemy.
Because He is Faithful, Merciful to the Utmost to bring us out of major false belief's, doubt's, fears, unbelief, besetting sins, backsliding and to rid us of ALL idols.

There is a modern conceit that Jesus said we are not to judge.
Jesus does teach that, but He teaches this as a warning, not as a simple proscription.
