Empty Hands
A Prophetic Reflection
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
— John 1:5 (NKJV)
“Lord, we’ve done great things in Your Name!
We fed the hungry.
We clothed the naked.
We fought for the oppressed.”
Jesus looked at them, His heart filled with sorrow.
“You never cared for them.
You never gave them the Gospel.
You gave them your vanity.”
They mistook mercy without truth for love.
They offered bread but not the Bread of Life.
They clothed bodies but left souls bare before judgment.
They fought for justice, but never told the world of the Righteous Judge.
And when they stood before Him, their hands were full—
of causes, not cross-bearing;
of slogans, not salvation.
They had built a kingdom,
but not His.
The crowd fell silent as the King spoke:
“I never knew you. Depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness.”
— Matthew 7:23
Let the church tremble.
Let every labor be weighed by this:
Did it lead anyone to the Lamb?
For the world does not need our activism.
It needs our witness.
It needs the pierced hands of Christ,
not the polished hands of human virtue.
So preach the Gospel.
Feed the hungry and tell them who the Bread is.
Clothe the poor and cover them with grace.
Fight for the oppressed and proclaim the freedom of the cross.
Otherwise, all our compassion is just applause for ourselves—
and at the end,
our hands will be empty.

(The world needs) “not the polished hands of human virtue.”
Good Word.
Our exodus in this life is not primarily from vice to virtue, it is more an exodus from virtue to the grace of God in Christ alone.
"For the world does not need our activism. It needs our witness." Very convicting. That's why social justice without the Gospel message doesn't change hearts.
